Environmental Considerations in Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery Eor Ior

The Chemical Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is widely used in mature oil fields where primary and secondary recovery methods are insufficient. Its applications extend across onshore and offshore fields, especially in reservoirs with challenging properties such as low permeability or heavy oil.

The primary benefit of chemical EOR is increased oil recovery, often extracting an additional 10–20% of original oil in place (OOIP). Beyond recovery rates, chemical EOR improves reservoir sweep efficiency, reduces water cut, and extends the economic life of wells.

Oil producers in North America, China, and the Middle East are actively implementing chemical EOR projects to maximize output while optimizing costs. The technology also enables better field management by stabilizing production, tertiary oil recovery, polymer flooding, surfactant injection, chemical EOR methods, improved oil recovery techniques and delaying abandonment, making it a strategic tool in the global energy landscape.
